What Dream Is Spirit Telling You To Chase?

“So the sun did not move, and the moon stopped until the people defeated their enemies.” – Joshua 10:13. 

From a young age, Katherine Johnson knew she loved math. She counted everything. Little did she know, her obsession with numbers was preparing her to count the stars. 

Much of what we know about space is thanks to Black women like Johnson. In a field dominated by white men, Johnson became a pioneer of celestial navigation and computational mathematics at NASA during the 1950s. At the same time, she battled discrimination within the organization. 

But she didn’t have time for her colleagues’ petty microaggressions. She kept her mind in the stars. 

Johnson’s work made many of NASA’s space missions, including Freedom 7, Friendship 7, and Apollo 11 possible. She was an essential contributor to the mission that put a man on the moon. 

Johnson worked for NASA for over 30 years. In 2015 President Obama presented her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. 

Taraji P. Henson portrayed Johnson in the 2016 film “Hidden Figures.” Fortunately, Johnson was able to get her flowers before passing in 2020 at age 101. 

Johnson reminds us to shoot for the moon. She refused to let anti-Blackness distract her. She knew in her spirit she was far too brilliant to get sidetracked by pettiness.
