What Does It Mean To Be A Disciple Of God?
Originally, Jesus chose 12 men to be his disciples. These men lived simply and did everything in their power to align themselves with God. We too have been chosen as disciples. And John 15 teaches us why this is a sacred responsibility.
“If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.” – John 15:18.
In moments of extreme adversity we must remember: we’re God’s chosen people. God’s disciples.
A disciple humbly embraces and teaches the doctrines of God. God sent each of us here with a purpose that comes with very specific lessons.
We’re meant to learn these lessons, and then use the gifts God bestowed us with to teach others. This is our responsibility as disciples.
When faced with anti-Blackness, let’s remember that John 15 continues, “But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’”
God didn’t create an anti-Black world. We live under anti-Black laws and systems historically constructed by white men pretending to play God.
The original world God created was rooted in love. God will continue to champion us as we fight to build a new world that returns us to love.
As disciples, it’s our responsibility to learn from God so we can live like God. So we can live in, with, and as love.
