We Are Worthy Of Protection From All That Harms Us

You deserve to feel supported. Erzulie Dantò was willing to do anything to keep her people spiritually covered during the fight of their lives, and her protection paid off in an incredible way.

Houngan Boukman Dutty led the prayer: “...Our god, who is so good, so just, He orders us to revenge our wrongs. It’s He who will direct our arms and bring us victory.” Everyone gathered around the fire, watching the life drain from a black pig, a protection ritual for the battle ahead.

And it was done in honor of this fierce goodness

Erzulie Dantò was revered across Haiti as a goddess of protection. Bois Caïman was the secret meeting of August 14, 1791, that planted the seed for the Haitian Revolution. On that evening, the revolutionaries made a pact with Dantò to fight against colonial forces in exchange for her protection.

Dantò didn’t believe in “civilized” war. She was out for blood and wanted her people to move like they were, too. She especially watched over the women and children during the fight for liberation.

Long after the revolution, folks still lean on her for spiritual support. Erzulie Dantò cherishes loyalty and trust and has a passionate energy associated with heavy, destructive rains.

Those who are experiencing abusive relationships petition her to break away and reclaim their freedom. She loves offerings like dolls, knives, and silver jewelry. A Haitian pork dish called Griot is her favorite.

In a world hellbent on harming us, we must do whatever is necessary to protect ourselves and one another. We are worthy of protection.
