Our ancestors knew the power of salt and water. Together and separately, they are incredible spiritual and physical detoxification agents. Let's tap into the undeniable benefits of saltwater.

When we take a dip in the sea, the saltwater detoxifies our skin. Experts say it lifts our moods by boosting serotonin levels, the happy hormone. In a world where systemic racism damages our health, breathing well is crucial.

Beyond that, saltwater can help with one of the most important things we all need to survive.

We know rest is our birthright. Saltwater helps improve sleep quality. The magnesium in the air surrounding ocean water can support the neurotransmitter that promotes sleep.

Although valuable to us, this information would be nothing new to our ancestors.

African spirituality leans on the power of salt and water. Traditionally, salt is used to ward off evil spirits. Water is considered healing lifeforce energy, and various rivers and oceans are connected to sacred deities.

What does this ancestral connection mean for us today?

Both salt and water have played traditional roles in our people's lives, so surrounding ourselves with them is a way of dipping into centuries-old ways of being. By indulging in the healing powers of saltwater, we're honoring ourselves and history–a spirit-aligned tradition that will continue to sustain us through the ages.
