Signs It’s Time To Protect Your Energy
We’ve all been told, “protect your energy,” but did you know that saying is really a warning about vampires? And not the kind we see in films. The real vampires suck our energy from us. Here’s how to peep an energy vampire.

Energy vampires constantly leave us feeling drained and exhausted. They can uplift themselves only by feeding off of our energy.
They want all of your attention, care, and emotional support but rarely reciprocate, sucking you dry. Energy vampires play a huge role in anti-Black spiritual warfare.
Energy vampires come in all shapes and sizes, like non-Black people who can only understand Blackness through the lens of oppression, and then trauma dump on us.
Or worse, culture vultures who want to experience Black freedom without actually being Black. They expect us to want to share our magic with them because they’re so “woke.”
A literal energy vampire is the villain in Ryan Coogler’s new film “Sinners.” Remmick is a white vampire who desires the spiritual freedom he’s witnessed in Sammie, the film’s blues-playing protagonist.
Sammie uses music to transport himself from the horrors of Jim Crow to a free state of mind. Remmick’s targeting of Sammie makes him both a physical and an energy vampire.
Anti-Blackness is an energy vampire that saps Black freedom efforts. Sayings like “protect your energy” come from generations of our ancestors having to resist anti-Black energy vampires.
Protecting our energy is crucial for our spiritual self-care and liberation efforts.
