Like David, We Can Conquer Our Goliaths
You're more powerful than you think. You already possess the tools you need to stand up to negativity. Just look at David. He defeated one of the biggest bullies in the Bible.
Massive in size and strength, the warrior Goliath threatened King Saul’s people. He terrified everyone, except David, a young shepherd.
David wasn’t a warrior. So how could he defeat Goliath?
David had faith. Although he didn’t know how to fight, he knew how to protect his herd from predators. To him Goliath was just one more wolf.
As David prepared to fight Goliath, he was offered armor and weapons. But David was comfortable with his own clothing, and fought with his own walking stick, slingshot, and five smooth stones.
Goliath, clad in heavy armor and brandishing a large sword, taunted David, who responded, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty.”
Running towards Goliath, David drew a stone from his bag and launched it from his slingshot. The stone hit Goliath square in the forehead, killing him instantly. Goliath was no more.
We, too face Goliaths. Hate, massive systems of injustice, and discrimination can seem impossible to overcome. Like David we show our faith in God whenever we challenge these systems. And because God is on our side, we know we are prepared for this fight. Stone by stone, we will bring these systems down.
