Her Unshakable Faith Started The Second She Got Fired
Snacking on a bag of chips, she made a livestream to announce that she had just been fired. She had no job, no home, no kids. Then she said five words: “I have nothing to lose.” Then God opened a door.

Five years ago Jaylah Hickmon got fired. Everyone knows her as Doechii now, and her mixtape “Alligator Bites Never Heal" just won the 2024 Grammy for Best Rap Album.
How’d she do it?
Unshakable faith. That means unwavering trust in God. Even when we encounter challenges, we trust God to see us through.
Unshakable faith requires that we commit ourselves to God. This could look like consistent prayer, service work, and making decisions that align with God's plan for us.
After being fired, Hickmon could have called it quits. But then she wouldn’t have become Doechii.
Instead, she leaned on God, chose sobriety, and went to record labels and recording studios to ask questions and look for internships. She said to herself, “I have nothing to lose.”
In her acceptance speech at the Grammys, Doechii demonstrated the power of unshakable faith by reminding little Black girls everywhere that anything is possible. She stated, “You are exactly who you need to be right where you are, and I am a testimony.”
Doechii reminds us that with faith, anything is possible – including Black liberation.
