"...come celebrate with me that everyday something has tried to kill me and has failed." Lucille Clifton's famous poem, "won't you celebrate with me," is a powerful reminder that despite what’s happening around us, we deserve to be celebrated.

Here are three ways to celebrate yourself today.

Mirror Work

Mirror work, the practice of saying positive affirmations to yourself in front of the mirror, is an easy way to nurture your spirit and mental health and celebrate who you are daily.

Plan A Solo Trip

Whether it's to a far-flung island or a nearby town, celebrating yourself can be as simple as trying out a new restaurant, visiting a museum, or simply walking a different route and exploring what you find.

Schedule A Nap

It might seem simple, but many of us feel like we have to earn sleep. Rest isn't a reward for working hard; it’s our right. Schedule a nap by adding it to your calendar like any other appointment, and reserve this time just for yourself.

The anti-Black systems poisoning our realities want us to be depleted and worn out. But when we make it a habit to take the time to care for and celebrate ourselves, we will have the energy and motivation to do what we must to show up for our communities.
