As winter comes, temperatures and serotonin levels drop, influencing our moods. Nearly 10 million Americans are affected by Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and a Black Americans are disproportionately represented by it.

Here are some soothing sounds to help ease your spirit through the SAD season.

Listening to ocean sounds can help reduce the stress that can cause depressive moods. Many mental health experts believe that a lack of sunlight during the shorter days of winter can cause this seasonal depression.

Listening to simulated thunder sounds can calm anxiety. Psychotherapist Farah Harris says, "African Americans have a higher rate of Vitamin D deficiency, so the lack of sunshine on our melanin skin can impact our mood."

You deserve rest. Rainfall sounds can help combat insomnia. While it's normal to experience highs and lows, we can always return to nature, as our ancestors once did, for soothing and healing.

We deserve to live long, full lives. Take care of yourself this season.
