Their Heavenly Black Excellence Touched The World

Acts 16:25-26: “...Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.”

The Kingdom Choir captivated folks with their angelic voices at the nuptials for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. This group, which hails from Southeast England, landed a record deal with Sony Music just a couple months after. So, how did one moment change the lives of these singers for years to come?

Under the leadership of founder Karen Gibson, their rendition of Ben E. King’s classic “Stand by Me” skyrocketed them to instant global stardom. The song shot up to the number one spot on the U.S. Hot Gospel Songs and Billboard Gospel charts. Why is this so amazing?

This choir has been performing for over 20 years, but still were largely unknown. However, during a wedding in which the world was watching and listening, they swung open doors that had largely been closed to Black gospel music.

For the first time in world history, our music was heard around the world. It uplifted hearts and minds and brought God’s divine musical connection to our people to the forefront of sound and popular music. Like the prison doors that swung open in Acts, hearts swung open and the choir secured a record deal.

Our existence is a testament to God’s love. We never know who is watching or listening. What’s your testimony? We never know who our lives may inspire and make free!
