The Spiritual Reason To Love Our Black Bodies
Our bodies have 79 organs, each working to ensure the health of the whole body. The same is true for our spiritual bodies. This metaphor reminds us of what it truly means to be united in faith as we work for liberation.
“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” – 1 Corinthians 12:27.
The body of Christ is usually understood as “the church.” Not to be confused with a church building, “the church” comprises those who’ve dedicated their life to service.
The body of Christ is an energy that courses through us, connecting every one of us to a larger purpose. This energy has many names: love, liberation, and faith.
Just like a physical body is made up of different parts, our differences are of service to God.
Our rejection of others within our communities for being different harms us. This rejection, big picture, keeps the body from functioning at its healthiest.
God has gifted everyone a specific task or gift that will help strengthen the body. Strengthening the body is synonymous with honoring our roles within Black liberation.
What gifts has God given you? This is how you help to strengthen the body.
Celebrating our differences and honoring our gifts helps us remember we aren’t competing with anyone.
Just like a body depends on all its parts to function, our working together for Black liberation strengthens Christ's body.
