How To Embrace Stillness To Get Closer To God
Stillness is a gift that allows for rest, prayer, gratitude, reflection, and, most importantly, faith. Embracing its sacredness can be powerful. Here are some ways to do that.
Find stillness in rest.
Although sleeping is a form of rest, stillness is more than sleep. Tricia Hersey of The Nap Ministry defines rest as anything that connects the mind and body.
So sit down and close your eyes for 10 minutes. Or embrace those few seconds spent waiting at a red light or riding in an elevator. Meditate by focusing on your breath.
Find stillness in prayer.
Spending intentional time with the Most High is sacred stillness. Prayer gives us moments of stillness reserved only for ourselves and God, helping to quiet the mind and get close to matters of the heart.
For five minutes at the beginning of the day or the end of the evening, set time aside for uninterrupted prayer.
Find stillness in reflection.
Reflection requires stillness. If you enjoy writing, try establishing a morning pages ritual, where you dump all of your unfiltered reflections into a journal. If you prefer to speak, lean into audio journaling.
Record voice memos on your phone or computer and journal aloud, reflecting on whatever you feel called to.
We live in a busy world, but embracing stillness can help us navigate the noise. The sacred gift of stillness is yours. You deserve it.
