An Abundant New Year Depends On Your “First Footer”

As the year ends, let’s not be stressed about next year’s resolutions. Instead, let’s focus on the abundance we want to welcome into our homes and communities. Be sure to communicate your desires to your “First Footer.” They’ll know what to do.

Who is the first person you want to enter your house on New Year’s Day? In the Caribbean and the bayous of Louisiana, “First Footing” is taken very seriously.

According to a beloved New Year’s Day tradition, the first person to enter a home on January 1 is thought to bring luck and abundance for the upcoming year. Families select their lucky “First Footer” based on their qualities that reflect prosperity, community, and living a blessed life.

The “First Footer,” sometimes called the “Lucky Bird,” is trusted with the responsibility to usher in good luck for the entire family. Meaning they must come correct.

Even if the First Footer lives in the house they’re entering, they’re expected to knock on the door and be let in.

Upon entering they bless the space, leaving coins, whiskey, food, and trinkets around the house to manifest future abundance.

What energy do we want to invite into our homes and communities for 2025?

Instead of getting hung up on resolutions, let’s lean into New Year’s rituals by gathering with loved ones and manifesting abundance.

Who will you choose to be your “First Footer” ?
