Why Wishing On A Star Is The Same As Prayer
The Karanga people of South Africa believe that the stars are both the eyes of the dead watching over us, and the eyes of future babies waiting to be born.
If this is true, it would mean our entire bloodline has always been watching over us in the cosmos.
The Karanga’s celestial lens helps us identify our place in the universe. It would mean each of us have been stars and will become stars again.
Does that make us living stardust now?
The Natural History Museum reminds us that nearly all the elements in the human body were made from massive stars that exploded billions of years ago.
Before we get caught up in the religion versus science argument about when the world was created, let’s embrace the beauty that spirituality leaves room for both.
Spirit created the stars that would explode to become the elements that are us. Almost like the stars themselves are our ancestors.
Anytime you need a reminder of how loved you are, look to the stars. Our bloodlines, literal and celestial, are looking back at us. Shimmering stars guiding us to freedom and new worlds that center Black liberation.
Let’s all wish upon a star tonight.
