Why Service Reminds Us Of Our Sacred Purpose

“You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” – Deuteronomy 8

One of Spirit’s main lessons for us is to live selflessly by sharing our wealth. Capitalism tricks us into thinking about wealth through an individualistic mindset.

Capitalism is at the root of our frustration when someone asks us for money.

Our nagging inner voice thinks,  “I earned this money. I am the one who should benefit from it.” But the voice of capitalism is not the voice of Spirit.

Spirit asks us, “How can you be a resource to your community?” This question introduces the most divine path: service

Service reminds us that we’re part of a larger collective. Through service, we remember that our “wealth” is our community, and we’re here to be of resource to one another.

If we deny the path of service, choosing to work for our own benefit, we will never live like Jesus. Jesus dedicated himself to service.

Through service, our faith and devotion become loving actions.

Service is a form of spiritual discipline designed to remind us of our goodness. Service reminds us to love our neighbor by being a resource to our community.
