Why Astrology Is Actually A Blackity Black Way To Tell Time

Ancient Egyptians used astrology as a cosmic calendar to track the annual flooding of the Nile. The flooding was essential for harvest season, so the Egyptians needed a sure way to track it.

They began tracking the planets and other sky patterns to map out what time of year the floods occurred.

Reading the sky was sacred work. Egyptian priests were responsible for translating the heavens for the people.

In addition to tracking seasonal changes, priests used their findings to strengthen the energetic power of spiritual rituals.

So much of our lives is about keeping up with capitalist time. Time to wake up for work, clock in and clock out, just to do it all again the next day.

We’ve always had a relationship with time. Time-tracking methods like astrology remind us we can be in relationship with time without being at the mercy of exploitative capitalist rules that use us up.

When did you last disconnect from capitalism and realign with Spirit? What did time feel like?

Let’s reclaim the wisdom of our ancestors. Decolonizing our relationship with time is a direct threat to capitalism and other systems that are built on the exploitation of Black people.

Reclaiming our time is spiritual self-care.
