What Would You Do If God Mailed You This Invitation?
”Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” – James 1:2.
Life tests our beliefs, support systems, and especially our faith. We persevere through it, understanding our trials are an invitation.
Trials invite us to turn to God. While God’s not necessarily testing us, our trials often lend us valuable insight about ourselves, our communities, the world, and where we fit into Black liberation work.
Our trials remind us that faith is a choice.
Each day that we wake up and choose to continue down the path of God, we’re choosing to put our faith into action. Faith requires continued effort.
It’s our responsibility to show up for God’s plans for us, despite the trials we will face. This is where perseverance becomes sacred.
Like James 1:2 implies, what would it look like if we faced our trials with righteous joy? Not to romanticize our suffering, but to celebrate the invitation God has given us.
We could view our fight for Black liberation as a trial, or choose to see it as an invitation down God’s path for us. This is sacred perseverance.
Let’s RSVP to this invitation with a joyous yes, because we are ready to lean into God.
