Three Inspiring Ways Jesus Practiced Self-Care
While self-care can consist of buying something or traveling somewhere new, it can also be simpler. Jesus practiced self-care in these three simple ways.
Mark 6:31: He encouraged his disciples to rest
“And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.” Jesus knew rest to be our divine right that we don’t have to earn.
Mark 4:38: He slept on a boat during a storm
“And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?” Life, especially for our people, gets stormy. Still, Jesus understood resilience is rewarding and usually requires us to carve out moments of silence and reflection to get where we’re trying to go.
Mark 1:35: He was intentional about his prayer time
“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.” Jesus was intentional about his solitude and prayer. Spending dedicated time with God and yourself is crucial.
Self-care is necessary to lead healthy lives, and Jesus knew this well. We, too, must lean into rest, prayer, and solitude and be intentional about caring for ourselves.
