Like God, We Are Who We Are
“I Am who I am.” – Exodus 3:14.
In Exodus, God first introduced Himself to Moses by saying, “I Am who I am.”
By introducing Himself in this way, God was reminding Moses of His omnipresence. Meaning, God is, has always been, and will always be present.
Whenever we say an “I am…” statement, we are indirectly referencing God’s omnipresence. Which is why whatever “I am…” statement we are making about ourselves should be reflective of God's divinity that exists within us.
Jesus reminds us of this in his “I Am statements” to show he was sent from God.
Jesus’s statements illuminate the depth of God’s love, painting God as life-giving, nourishing, righteous, forgiving, and protective.
“I am…” statements we can make that reflect God’s omnipresence are:
I am love.
I am patient.
I am learning.
I am kind.
I am transforming.
I am deserving of grace.
I am loved by God.
Spend five minutes each morning writing down “I am…” statements. This is an easy, affirming way to start each day with God.
Which “I am…” statement most reminds you of your divinity?
