God Empowered Us To Define What Justice Means

The Bible says we should dedicate ourselves to justice. Racism tainted the term, equating justice with police and biased laws. 

But what else does the Holy Scripture tell us about our fight to achieve justice in a world that can seem deadset against us? 

Isaiah 1:17 reminds us to "seek justice. Defend the oppressed.” Meaning we must continuously work towards justice. None of us are free until we’re all free. 

Here, justice becomes synonymous with our faith. Just because we can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not real. 

Let us see justice as an invitation to reimagine Black futures. Proverbs 21:15 states, “When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to the evildoers.” 

Harmful systems fear our righteousness because our fight for justice exposes their immorality. There’s already victory in knowing we’re building futures rooted in our joy.

When our voices shake, remember Proverbs 31:8, "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.” 

Justice is an action step we must choose to take together. It is our responsibility to uplift each other’s voices. Community solidarity is what our ancestors depended on to escape to freedom, protest against injustices, and win battles in and outside courtrooms. 

Justice is an integral part of the Holy Word. It reminds us that God is indeed on our side.
